This painting is a part of the Awake series where the true depiction of what the first people on earth looked like, but only this is an expressionist view of them leaving the Garden of Eden. They are back together again after their fall and must stick together and be fruitful and multiply. The canvas is skewed, and it is that way on purpose showing that they are no longer perfect, in comparison to the Adam and Eve paintings which are perfectly structured.
